Non Western Art of the Outdoors: Chile

Image
Art of Nature Non Western art is art that is created in any country in the world other then the countries that are located in North America and Europe. With this in mind, there are a bunch of different countries throughout the world, who have their own styles of art. Chile has it's own styles of art, but there are a number of different art pieces that are made in Chile, which are similar to art pieces from other countries. There is a large variety of art that has been made in Chile, but there have been a number of Chilean artists who have done landscape paintings within the last 100 years to show the beautiful landscapes of Chile. Un Lugar en las Montañas (A Place in the Mountains): Un Lugar en les Montañas  is known in English as  A Place in the Mountains , is a 19.7 inch by 39.4 inch oil painting, that was completed by Eileen Lunecke in 2017 (Singulart 2017). I like this painting, because it is a depiction of a nice clear day in the mountains.  Lines Eileen Lunecke used lines in

Post Modern Era: Realistic Paintings of the Outdoors

Paintings of Nature During the Post Modern Era The post modern era is an era of art that we are currently in, which began in 1980. There have been a whole bunch of different artists throughout this era who have created a wide variety of different art. Despite all of the different types of art that have been completed during this era, there have been a number of different artists who have created photorealism paintings of nature. Emerald Forests Along the Gunnison River: Emerald Forests Along the Gunnison River  is an oil painting that was completed by Kay Witherspoon in 2021, in the state of Colorado. Witherspoon explained that she completed this painting, as well as several others along the Gunnison River since "There are so many beautiful places to paint" along the river (Witherspoon 2022). I like this painting, because it is a realistic painting of the outdoors during a nice sunny day. I would like to own this painting, because it is a peaceful painting of a flowing rive

Early Modern Era

Image
Depictions of World War 1 During the Early Modern Era The early modern era was an era of art that ranged from 1900 to 1939. These pieces of art were completed by many different artists. Despite this, whether pictures or paintings, they were created to convey things from a small selection of different subjects. Most of the art during this time was created to depict certain feelings about World War 1 or the Great Depression, while other pieces of art were created so that African Americans would be seen as equals. The the art from the early modern era was also often used to show that there had been innovations in science and technology. Throughout this blog, you will be able to see some of the different types of art that were created to depict some of the scenes, as well as some of the feelings that were had about World War 1. Stormtroopers Advancing Under Gas: Stormtroopers Advancing Under Gas  is an etching that was completed by Otto Dix in 1924, in the country of Germany. Dix was a Ger

Preferences and Perspectives - The Romantic Era

Image
Realist and Impressionism Art There were several different styles and classifications of art that were used during the 1800s, so people have chose to classify art that was made in the 1800s as the Romantic era. Two of these many art styles were the realism, and the impressionism art styles. Realism art depicts ordinary subjects as they look in real life, such as animals, and people doing activities that they regularly do. Impressionist art pieces, on the other hand, are not as detailed, because they are often made up of large dabs of color, that are blended together. Impressionist paintings are sometimes used to depict people, but they are often times used to depict a piece of landscape, or some buildings. It is explained that realist art was created "to convey a truthful and objective vision of contemporary life," while impressionist art "emphasizes an artist's immediate impression of a moment or scene" (Finocchio, 2004; Gersh-Nesic, 2018). I personally prefe

Classical Art

Scientific Discoveries shown throughout the Classical Era There were a bunch of artists who created different pieces of art throughout the classical era. A number of which, created paintings that were used to support science, and the discoveries of new scientific knowledge. The classical art, that was used to support the idea of science, was partially influenced by the enlightenment, since the enlightenment was a period in which the culture was heavily focused on science, as well as politics and philosophical discourse (White 2018). A Philosopher Giving a Lecture on the Orrery: A Philosopher Giving a Lecture on the Orrery , is a 58 inch by 80 inch, oil painting that was completed by Joseph Wright  somewhere around 1763 to 1765 in Derby, England. This painting was made to promote the idea of astrology, where everyone is gathered together. Everyone is enjoying the interesting lecture that is being given about space, as they are all looking at a model of the galaxy. I enjoy this painting,

Baroque: The Surrender of Breda

Image
The Surrender of Breda: I chose to analyze an oil painting, The Surrender of Breda , which was either painted in 1634 or 1635 by Diego Velȧzquez. I enjoy this oil painting because it is realistic and because it has several different aspects to it. There is not only a lot of history in this painting but there are also a lot of things that portray meaning. The Eighty Years' War was a long battle that the Dutch fought to gain independence from Spain (Tikkanen). Amidst this long war, Spain ended up capturing the city of Breda, forcing the Dutch to surrender, as you see in the painting (Dios). This painting was completed by one of the best court painters of King Philip IV, Diego Velȧzquez, who depicted the Dutch, as they surrendered to Spain. It can be seen in the middle of the painting, that the Dutch commander, Justinus van Nassau, is giving the key to the city to Ambrogio Spinola, who was the captain of the Spanish army at that time (Dios). Lines Diego Vel ȧzquez uses a number of dif

Renaissance: A Goldsmith in his Shop

Image
A Goldsmith in his Shop: I chose to analyze an oil painting,  A Goldsmith in his Shop , which was painted in 1449, by Petrus Christus. I am not a very big fan of the painting, because it is not a painting of anything that looks cool, it is only a painting of a few people inside of a shop. I will say though, that it has quite a number of different elements that are used to make the painting look realistic, and to draw you in. It also has quite the story behind it. This painting was completed in 1449, which is the same year that Mary of Guelders married King James II of Scotland. In 1449, Mary's great uncle, Philip the Good, hired a goldsmith to make her and King James II some wedding rings (Zappella). It is believed that the woman and the man are to be married, because there is a wedding girdle on the table, and because the woman is putting her hand out to get the ring that the goldsmith has. It is also believed that the people are to be married because the man has his hand around
